  1. Hi, Trying to install my new NEC ND2500A Burner and my computer is not recognizing something is there.

    P3-850
    40GB
    256Mem
    64 Ge Force
    Win XP SP1
    Lite on 16102B CDRW
    LG DVD Drive
    *new Nec 2500A*

I want to have two drives, one for Playing Dvd's and burning Dvd's etc... One for Burning Cd's playing cd's, Vcd etc...
I first removed the Dvd drive and replaced it with the DVD-RW and at first it would not recognize the DVDRW just the CDRW. I then restarted my PC and then it doesn't recognize either and nothing happens when I put media in either.
Power is on and cables are in the exact place.
Then I unplugged the DVDRW and left the CDRW plugged, I restarted and then the CDRW showed up, then I plugged in the DVDRW while the PC was on and it still wouldn't pick it up... tried restarting again and opening closing Nothing.... I need Help, bad....

Would it be better to get rid of the CDRW and put back the DVD drive and the DVDRW. I do want two drives so there is specific functions, not to have one do everything.. I know a little anal..but hey.. If I could have all three at once I would.

Thanks guys for all the help, I really appreciate it...I got all excited then this sh!T happens, nothing is ever easy.

Check your BIOS to see if it's being recognized in there. Make sure you're using the correct IDE cables for the drives, make sure you have the dvdrw set to either master or slave depending on how you're setting the drives up.

I have 3 optical drives in my pc. This is how it's set up.
    PRIMARY MASTER- HARD DRIVE
    PRIMARY SLAVE- SECOND HARD DRIVE
    SECONDARY MASTER- DVD BURNER
    SECONDARY SLAVE- DVD-ROM
PCI CONTROLLER CARD MASTER- CD BURNER

Make sure dvd burner is set to DMA mode. Here's a site that can help you to set to DMA mode in XP.

  3. I checked my Bios when the CDRW and DVDRW were connected and nothing was showing up, I used the exact cable that was connected to my DVD rom Drive. I used the exact same everything and still not recognizing.
I will try what you said though I don't know, is this a common problem with NEC or XP??

    Thanks again

most likely a bad cable. check in your device manager.

  5. 1. Make sure the BIOS is set to "AUTO" for all your drives.
    2. Make sure the ribbon cables are plugged in properly at all connections.
    3. Make sure these two drives are pinned properly and on the proper ribbon cable plug. (master on the end of the cable, slave in the middle)

I have had ribbon cables go bad while changing drives out and it was always because of the way I pulled them off the old drive. Since your CD-RW drive worked by itself I would assume the cable is still good, at least that plug is good anyway. I would say your problem is simply because you didn't pin the new drive correctly.

It's also a good idea to unplug the power cord from the A/C when you are working inside your computer case, and to also make sure the first thing you touch is unpainted bare case metal to discharge any static electricity your body may have. You don't want to ZAP anything in there. Right.

    Good luck.

I followed the same procedure earlier in the week when I installed my Pioneer A07 drive (replaced DVD-ROM with A07 using same cables). The instructions in my Dell manual indicated I should set the drive to "cable select". You might want to try this with your drive and see if that works.

  8. Thanks, i got's it working and it's great, used Fuji Film DVD+R and it's awesome.
FYI, I used Cloned DVD and the extra features on the dvd copy were not responding when I played it in my stand alone DVD player, everything else did.
But when I used InstantCopy 8.0 this was the Sh!t, my original dvd was 5.09GB so a identical copy of the original in every way. And no flaws at all......
Use 8.0 and get the patch...to kill the trial....

    :P
