Hi all!
I have an annoying problem with my dvd burner. I use only Verbatim DVDs and my writer is only 1,5 years old (not used much), but it just doesn't want to burn. The strange symptom for me is, that it reads everything properly, but cannot burn.
Here I copy my Nero log:

But be aware that DVD burners use different lasers for CD and DVD burning and playback. The DVD burning part of the laser usually dies first, though it may still work for playback as that requires lower power. If the burning laser is dying, you usually would get a power calibration error. Power calibration is done before each burn in a special area near the inside of the disc to set the power level of the burn for that disc. Odd that a fairly new burner would have a bad laser, but not unheard of.
EDIT: I have created a new thread for you. Please don't hijack others threads unless you are replying to the OPs question.
And welcome to our forums.
EDIT:EDIT: Corrected information about DVD lasers.Last edited by redwudz; 9th Oct 2010 at 20:27.

Note:
There is only ONE laser period ... it is controlled by two diodes which supply two different voltages to the circuitry which enable it to determine between cd or dvd media , given they use different light frequencies.
====
Burning faults where media may be ruled as last possibility.
A: Check the data cable between the unit and motherboard ... use a new one and beware if using 80pin ide cables ... they can only be fitted in one direction ... unlike the old 40pin cables ... cables can wear out.
B: Outdated firmware ... update , reboot , then try burning again.
C: A defective drive ... they do occur once in a while. -
Thank you for your answer.

roomgrey,
Out of curiosity, did that drive previously burn okay, or has it always had problems?
The two logs have different errors, from burns with different media. The errors may, or may not be connected, but tend to indicate the drive isn't exactly robust in it's abilities.
In the first log, as redwudz pointed out, the drive reported the problem was atapi error 030C00, which generally means a media error...in that case from the RITEK 004 disk.
In the second log, the the drive reported the problem was atapi error 040901 (Tracking Servo Failure), which generally is the drive, itself.
Upgrading the firmware would be the first thing to try, which you said you already did, and the drive does report that the firmware was updated from RP05 (in the first log) to RR09 (in the second log). If that's the newest firmware your computer manufacturer offers, that pretty much ends that course of action.
The drive reports that it's current firmware has write strategies (for the media in the second log) for 2.4x, 4x, and 6x. Since you already failed at 2.4x, you could try burning at 4x and/or 6x, but that isn't all that likely to help.
The only remaining path would be to burn with a different drive. You could have the current drive replaced, but I've never had much luck with those little slimline drives, so if it was me, I'd just get an external full size burner. -
There is only ONE laser period ... it is controlled by two diodes which supply two different voltages to the circuitry...
Probably the best demonstration of that is the overabundance of morons on the web giving instructions on extracting the two (red and IR) laser diodes from dvd burners and using them in all manner of incredibly stupid and dangerous experiments. -
You should not ask for help with illegal obtained copyrighted material.............
To be precise, "sr-mw2a.iso" is "Call.of.Duty.Modern.Warfare.2.PROPER-SKIDROW" ......
As for:
"Recorder: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50N, Media type: DVD+RW
Disc Manufacturer ID: RITEK, Media Type ID: 004, Product revision number: 48"
Your drive doesnt recognize that Ritek 004 media properly, "DVD+RW" media is no good choice with such drives...
