I have backed up a couple dozen of my DVD's but now I have run into a DVD that wont get past the 3rd vob file.
I used DVD Decrypter, I also tried Smart Ripper but it also stopped at the same vob file.
Should I try other decrypter programs or do you think the protection could be just too good?

    And The answer is...

It might help if you name the DVD and fill out your profile. Most of us are not mind readers.

  3. Could be a disc problem. CSS encryption is CSS encryption. There aren't different flavors that I'm aware of, so another decryptor shouldn't be the answer.

Which disc are you trying to rip?

No scratches or fingerprints on the disc ? Seems strange that it bottoms out at the same point in two different rippers.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Sorry.
    Its SeaBiscuit.
I wasnt sure if I could actually name the title.
It keeps stopping at the same place.
There is a healthy scratch on the dvd.
I will try cleaning it and doing it again.

    Well.
    It did the same thing.
This one is a rented dvd and it really does have allot of small scratchs and one somewhat lare gouge about 1/2" in from the outer edge.
Also it seems to have a delaminated look.I have never seen a delamination but this is what I would think it looks like.
It isnt the label reflecting through for sure because the cloudy art looks different then the label.
I will have to assume its the disk fault.
I actually tried every freeware and demo available in the Tools section so I am sure its a bad disk.
    Thanks

You are in breach of the forum rules and are being issued with a formal warning. Please read our rules before posting. Making a copy of a DVD you don't own is illegal.

  7. I had a few DVD's with similar problems and I just used the windows exployer to copy the bad VOB file to my hard drive then inserted it into the files that did rip and ripped the whole mess again.

  8. You might want to try iosbuster. Look in the tools section for it, it is freeware. So far it has managed to read every scratched up disk that other programs refused to read for me. One dvd produced unusable files (other programs would not accept the files produced by isobuster) but the rest have worked fine. I think there are other tools like this out there but for free, why not try it?

    C'mon now!

We can't be talking about making a copy of a rented DVD.

Well, it's definitely a disc problem. Easy solution - just return it to your video store for an exchange. The exchanged DVD should work just fine for you. I backed up my dad's copy of SeaBiscuit last week w/ no problems at all.

I had the same problem that you are describing last week with a copy of the Perfect Storm. I thought it was everything except my DVD, and then finally as my last option, I went to BlockBuster to get a copy of it and after doing so, I realized it was my copy that was giving me the problem - not DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink.

  11. umm guys, you really do not want to be talking about copying rented dvds. backing up dvds that you legitimately own is ok to talk about, but what you are mentioning is outright stealing.

I would say for future reference choose you wording wisely

    That said......

However if you have tried different rippers, you could try cleaning the disc / filling in the scratches with something like brasso....

Try reading THIS thread for other alternatives to getting around scratches on the disc.
