problem with converting files to mpeg1

Hi all,

got a little problem converting files to mpeg 1 format. i have a dvd with the video on that i need to convert. i have managed to convert this into final cut express and then to mpeg 2 and aiff but can't seem to convert this into mpeg 1 using ffmpeg. i have read the online manual on converting FCP into vcd using the presets but every time i try the process says failed.

my process is-

use cinematize to convert the dvd to mov stream,
open final cut express and export as mpeg 2 after editing,
try ffmpeg to convert to mpeg 1...

kinda stumpped. any help and i really would be greatful.

my process is:

use 0sex to convert the DVD to .vob and if it is 4:3
I use ffmpegx/fastVCD (ffmpeg) preset
if it is 16:9 I need to use VCD (mpeg2enc) preset
