Anyone have any Ideas as to why this recorder records everything to DARK? I have tried from every source imagineable but all to no avail, even if I record direct from the tv. It is still darker then normal, what good does this recorder do me if I can't even record a program or sports event where the picture is darker then normal. I mean it really shows up when there is a nite scene. Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated. I have looked into the clarifier but, it says nothing about picture darkness or birghtness, just about macrovision protection, thats fine if I am going to make a backup of an exsisting vhs movie I have, but makes no sense when tv picture straight from my direct tv is dark then normal, no macrovision present in that, so I don't see where it will help.

Have you tried to set the black level under the system menu options? One setting results in a darker looking picture.
I think the setting are either on or off.
