  1. I HAVE THE NEC ND1100A DRIVE WHICH I HAVE BEEN USING TO BACK UP MY DVDS. IVE BEEN USING PACKARD BELL DVD+R 2.4x Discs no problems whatsoever (dvdshrink & nero are my weapons of choice). I thought i might try some RITEK PRINTABLE dvd+r 4x Discs, but my NEC will not even 'See' them. When i put the disc in drive at burning stage nero says "no media present".

I have downloaded dvdinfopro the message displayed when i put the Ritek disc in my NEC is: NO MEDIA PRESENT

If i put the disc in my dvd-rom drive: it spins and clicks and spins and clicks for 5 mins untill i take it out.

Any ideas anyone ? i have a feeling that i have bought 20 mini frisbees for £ 22.00

You have to burn disk first to see Media ID

  3. Have you upgraded the firmware on your drive to use 4x discs?

I have the same drive and I needed the updated firmware.

  5. Don't change your media if the old one works. No media can be used on all writers. also, left column, dvd media/writers for what works on your unit

  6. I have since tried some more 2.4x speed media which works fine and also some TDK +RW 4X discs which work fine too.

What (if any) are the risks involved with adding the firmware to my drive so i can use 4x speed dvd+R?

My NEC ND1100A is currently @ VERSION 1.8.

I did it once my 2x disks went to 1x....also couldn't get the old firmware online to go back to it, so be sure you have that before you change.

The ritek 4x dvd+r disks are infact DVD-R disks thats why your ND-1100A will not see them they will only work on aDVD-R recorder
