I previously used a hack to unlock the region codes for my LG RH1888H dvd player. Initially this worked but now the player does not read/recognize any dvd discs. Would love to know how I can fix this so that I can use the dvd playback feature.

You can try using the code again. You could reset it back to region free or try putting it back into it's original region.

Aside from that, you are pretty much left with the repair shop and replacing the unit. This happens sometimes when hacking players and it also voids the warranty.

I would suggest buying a region free capable player next time.

It is also possible that your DVD player has a problem with the DVD laser. It could be that you keep the player in an area with poor ventilation and use it a lot and it has damage from heat buildup. It could be that you just got a bad player that is wearing out prematurely. Usually making a player region free doesn't damage it. However, I saw a recent post where I think some LG player had the ugliest system for unlocking the region that I have ever heard of. To unlock it, you had to use a remote and pull up a menu that required you to enter various hex values into it to unlock it. An unfortunate poster had accidentally entered a value in the wrong field and it seemed to have ruined his player. If your player required some similar nasty system to unlock it, then yes, perhaps that would damage it. Most players that I have seen have very simple menus that you access and you just enter a value to set the region to 0 (this means all regions), they don't require you to enter obscure hex values.
