Hi : I got a panasonic e55 the other day. Besides ordering cable tv service, and finding a beta vcr (probably off of ebay). I'd like to get a dvd-ram drive, so I can edit the beta home movie tapes I plan to use the e55 to transfer to disc.

The strange part of this (ordeal) is in deciding which dvd-ram drive to buy. I really have not seen much to choose from. Maybe my search skills stink. I already have an NEC-2500a +/- 8x burner, but it does not read ram, just rom. So far, about the only drive I have seen recommended, is the Toshiba SD-M1712 at newegg for 29.00. Any other choices I should consider ? - Thanks

Oh yeah, I almost forgot - Can I use the dvd-r disks to edit ? I know I will not be able to reuse them

  2. LG makes a reader (at NE), but for just a reader I've always heard good things about the Toshiba. I guess you're not really asking for this, but LG also makes a burner that has been rated excellant and also does DVD RAM both reading and writing.

get LG GSA-4082B or any earlier LG model (GSA series). They all read/write to +R/-R/+RW/-RW/-RAM, and the latest one (4082) does both +/- at 8x and DVD-RAM at 3x (supposedly, because I never got full 3x on any of them).
Once I had earlier model of panny too, thats why i thought I'd try and bought back then my first LG writer (GMA-4020). Since then I dont buy any other dvd writers but LG Theyre really that good
