You've got to do some basic searching on this website before posting a question like this. I found it when I was a newbie.

You have to go into re-author mode in Shrink and add what you want to the final copy. There are several things you should know before you do it though. Check out https://www.videohelp.com/guides.

  3. i never use reauthor mode except for movie only. what i heard though was stuff dosen't work right if you try adding menus or extras in reauthor mode.

CloneDVD allows you to remove any or all extras while compressing. No other "popular" DVD compressor does that.

  5. IC8 removes extras
    Nero Recode removes extras.
    Intervideo DVDcopy does.
    DVDXcopy Platinum does.
    DVD95copy does.

    Ah...the laziness of today.....

If you are wanting to ditch the extra's you are looking to do a movie only DVD.

All you need to do is rip the movie with DVD Decrypter.(if you don't want extras...just rip the movie)
Go to the VIDEO_TS folder and delete everything (IFO and BUP files) except the VOB files.
Rename the VOB files: VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, and so on.
Use IFOedit to create new IFO file, get VTS sectors and region free it...save it, close IFO edit.
Use IMGtools to make an IMG file of the VIDEO_TS folder
Burn with Decrypter in ISO write mode.

Whole process start to finish in less than 20 minutes. (if you have a 4x burner).

If the main movie is too big, then before you make the img file use dvd shrink to make it small enough, then IMGtools, then burn it.

  8. not sure why you want to use ifoedit? dvd shrink will do the same thing but much faster then ifoedit.

Because I don't like DVD Shrink. Tried it when it first came out...quality was worse than IC7 for me and I've not used it since.

If the main movie doesn't need to be encoded then the IFOedit method is quick and easy.

I can't imagine DVD Shrink being quicker, 20 minutes is including the 12 minutes it takes to burn it at 4x....but if you say Shrink can do it in under 8 minutes I believe you, I still don't like it.

  10. DVD Shrink is a fine tool and has come a long way since it first came out. You should give it another look.

I probably should, improvements have been made I'm sure.

But when testing the softwares when I first got into this stuff, IC7 gave me the best quality...so I chose that route, I am familiar with it and it works for me.

  12. dvd shrink won't mess with the quality of the movie if it is small enough to fit on a dvd after the extras and other crap is removed. it will just create new bup and ifo files so it will be playable again in a dvd player...

Well with a whole day to kill...not having to work on President's Day....I decided to download DVDShrink 3.1.5s and check it out, I have 2 DVDs laying on my HD that I just haven't gotten around to doing yet.

I have to say that I am impressed...dramatic improvements in the way of quality and GUI. Shrink was easy to set up, easy to run, easy to understand...Looks like I am changing softwares.

When I use DVDDecrypt to rip the movie. Then go in and delete everything except the main movie (remove menues, and extra's and IFO and BUP files). When I try and load the folder into DVDShrink it won't let me. Gives me an error saying "Failed to load VIDEO_TS.IFO". So I have to use Ifoedit to create these before I can even use DVDShrink.

Is there a different way you go about it? Do you just use DVDShrink to rip and shrink instead of removing all the menues and extra's? I just figured if I can get rid of the menues and extra's (which I don't care about. All I want is the movie anyway) I'll be able to get a better quality backup due to not having to compress as much to fit onto a DVD-R.

  15. when you rip movie only you need to rip all the ifo and bups that gose with the mvoie. dvd decrypter only gets the ifo file but dvd shrink also requires the bups files also in order to work...

Do you get better quality results if you use DVDDecrypter, then DVDShrink, then burn with Nero instead of just using DVDShrink then Nero?
I actually don't have my burner yet. It should be here sometime today. I ordered an Optorite DD0201. I do have an old DVD-Rom in one of my PC's that I've been practicing on ripping movies with. Then I play them back thru PowerDVD to see if they work. I'm assuming that if they work with that playing off the harddrive they should be ok to burn onto a disk.

Only thing is I have a Samsung DVD-709 standalone player that's very picky. Not sure if it'll even play the Ritek's I ordered off of newegg. Oh well if it does'nt I'll just get a new player. I need one anyway. Never really did care much for hte 709 anyway.
