  1. I have a panny E-30 and I can't believe I haven't noticed this before.

I popped in the ANTZ videotape (VCR is hooked directly to the DVDRecorder) and noticed that the colour of the ants is constantly fluctuating. They'll appear slightly orange, then slightly red, then slightly orange all within the span of a couple of seconds. And it doesn't stop.

I know it is the Recorder and not a combination of Cables/power source/VCR problems (unplugged and switched everything - Including a New VCR), because when I unplug the composite video cable connecting the VCR to the DVDRecorder and plug it directly into the TV, THE COLOURS LOOK FINE - NO FLUCTUATION!!?!!

I have turned the 3D Y/C on/off and it makes no difference.

I don't think that the Machine is malfunctioning, because when I record my satellite dish thru the S-Video input, it looks fine.

Is there a way to disable the TBC ?(which I'm assuming is causing this)

Would buying a composite to S-Video adapter help bypass the TBC circuit?

    Your input is much appreciated.

The fluctuation you see is "Macrovision" (anti-copy guard).

  3. The problem is not macrovision based. That problem would go light-dark-light-dark. And only if you try and record the source.

I am not recording the source, I am just playing it through my E-30.

If I tried to record it, I get the message "This material cannot be recorded", which I understand, seeing as it is copywrited material.

Recording ANTZ is not what I'm trying to accomplish, I'm trying to find out why the colour fluctuates.

  4. ScottyMac,

I noticed a very similar problem this morning with The Birds on VHS. Play the tape and view it directly on the televison and there are no problems. Hooked up the VCR to my CyberHome DVDR and there was a subtle but noticable color fluctuation; color went from fine to banded. The CyberHome didn't notice any copy protection ... it recorded the video without stopping.

When I placed "The Video Clarifier" in the video path the color fluctuations went away.

I am curious, did you find a way to disable your TBC?

    Hope this helps.

No, I don't think you can. But I did the same as you, hooked up a cheapie video stabilizer, tweaked the potentiometer on the inside and now the colours are solid.

Plus the macrovision nag is gone too.

    Cheers.
