  1. My mother's new 32" Insignia 1080p HDTV doesn't have any standard inputs on the back or side. She has a standard DVD/VHS player that she would like to keep and use. Is there any way to connect this player to the TV without the use of a converter box. Thanks for your time

You don't indicate if there is any input at all? So I'm guessing that maybe the TV has an HDMI connector? If it does you can get an appropriate converter

But checking the specs if this is the model it appears to have all the inputs you would need

    Code:
    Inputs/Outputs

                        HDMI Inputs3 - Side
                         Component Video Inputs1 - Bottom
                         S-Video Inputs1 - Bottom
                         A/V (Composite) Inputs1 - Bottom
Coaxial Cable (RF) Inputs1 - Bottom
                         IEEE 1394 (Firewire) InputsNo

I notice that some HD TVs are shipping with proprietary connectors for analogue connections. There should be adapters in the box. The new Samsungs do this. Not a fan of the switch myself.

  4. Thanks netmask56. I haven't seen the TV in person. My brother bought it for her. She asked the cable installer to connect her player for her. He is the one that said that there were no inputs to connect the player. I had looked at the TV on bestbuy.com. It showed the component, composite and S-video inputs. I plan on checking the TV in the store. I'm sure she doesn't want to purchase a converter. At the price, she would be better off to purchase a Blu-Ray player. Again, thanks for your input.
