  1. hey umm does anybody know what is a good brand of a calling card to buy if i want to call somebody long distance (and of course, not want it to be on the phone bill and stuff)

because i have tried a few brands and they all last a lot less than they are advertised as. like for instance, it may say 1c/min but it really takes probly 10c(?) per minute.

the person i am wanting to call is in Texas, and i am in Washington (state) so its within the United States...

if anybody knows of a good kind to buy, it would be greatly appreciated.

Costco and Sam's club offer the best phone cards for your money.

  3. This isn't a calling card, but may work for you. You can get a phone number in Texas and get unlimited calls for $25 a month, and the person in TX could call you as local too. You need highspeed internet access though....

I second what Budz says. I buy the cards from Costco (MCI, 2.98c/min) or from Sam's Club (AT&T, 2.96c/min). Both cards are rechargeable, for the same price. Both have no expiration on the minutes. They are available in 100m (usually a 10-pack) or 250, 500, 1000, 2000 min. increments. You can recharge them usually in 100 min. increments, i.e., $2.96 for 100 min on the AT&T card. Buy as much or as little minutes as you like. No Access Fees, No Sales Tax, No Maintenance Fees, No Minimum Usage fee, NO tricks, games or gimmicks. The only fee is incurred if and when you use a pay phone, but that's true of every card out there.

By far the best value for the money, IMHO. If you don't have a Costco or Sam's Card, find a friend or someone who does (everyone I know has one, including myself) and get them to buy one for you, or go with them and buy it. You don't have to be a member to use the calling cards. I buy them and send them to my mom so she can call me from wherever. I have yet to find a card that is a better all-around deal, except the time-limited "99 min. for 99 cents" nationwide calling cards from the "99-only" Stores. But you may not have these stores where you live. So overall, you can't go wrong with either the Sam's or Costco cards.
