  1. I am looking for some information in order to determine what is the best placement for the Monitor in relation to the user's position.

1)First of all How far should someone be from a monitor when the diameter is x inches? I remember to have seen a diagram a couple years back but it's lost on my bookmarks, and it explained what the horizontal distance from the screen should be according to how many inches it is. Not jut for health reasons(eyesight) but in order not to notice noise and other artifacts that you normally would in close range.

2)Another thing i need assistance with,is how tilted must the screen be when you lie down. Most times instead of lying on my back against the sofa,i lie down or sideways on my bed and it is not as comfortable as it should be.Any suggestions about that?

  3. Sorry i meant when i'm watching videos, not when i'm working on the computer.

That requires some technical and more detailed approach, that's y i'm asking more specifically.

You can do a internet search for 'computer ergonomics' and get quite a bit of information. One site: http://dohs.ors.od.nih.gov/ergo_computers.htm

As everybody dose not have perfect 20/20 vision and screen sizes are varied the screen must be position at a comfortable distance to suit the user involved without causing unnecessary eye strain.

Data entry would presume within about 1.5 arm lengths away and at 30 degree's tilt (again, screen resolution and size taken into account)

OHS guidelines do not cover "lounge lizard" effect ... However considering the posture, you may wish to purchase a special mount which can allow the screen to swivel and be angled to suit the "lounge lizard" position more comfortably for viewing.

  6. Yes but i repeat this is for office work/working on the computer. I'm making this inquiry on behalf of watching media files.
Standing an arms length from the computer may protect my eyes but i can easily spot noise.

I want information on how to place the monitor when i'm lied on the bed and at which distance.

So far i havent found anything specific about what i'm asking from the sites describing the ergonomics.

The viewing distance will depend on the resolution of the media files then. Watching a 320x240 Youtube video (enlarged to full screen) you have to much farther away than watching a 1920x1080 Blu-ray disc.

  9. Yep the link seems to work.IS it scientifc though or arbitrary?Anyway i'll keep this valus into mind.

Aside from that you havent told me.How do you find more convenient when you watch media files?Do you lie on a sofa sit on a chair or lie down on your bed?

Most of the times i lie down sideways on the bed especially late at night but i find it inconvenient for my neck to keep focus on the monitor.

The monitor should be just far enough away that scan lines don't become intrusive.

This advice doesn't really work when the video you watching doesn't have the same resolution as the monitor. A 20" 1680x1050 monitor may look great from 2 feet away with a 1680x1050 video. It will look like crap with a 352x240 VCD.
