In ISO mode you are merely taking an image of the DVD and putting it on on either your HD or a DVDr. I've only tried this when I am ripping the movie-only, and it is shorter than say...1:45 in length. As long as the total size is less than 4.37gb it works fine. When I do it...I have file splitting on auto and have all 4 ticks checked. ISO mode will rip and burn the image for u.

In IFO mode, you can rip the movie only onto your HD and preserve the DVD file structure...ie; ifo, bup and vob files. Then, since most of the flicks I back up are bigger than 4.37gb, I run these files thru DVD2One to compress them to 4.37gb. On the left in the settings area, I have all those 7 boxes checked, and the file splitting set to 1gb. On the right, I have only Stream information checked. This is the technique I use most, since it's fast and easy, and usually I don't care to have all the menus and extras on my backups. If you just want a copy of the movie, this is the one I recommend. Every DVD I've burnt (dozens) using this method has worked.

In FILE mode, I rip the entire DVD and compress it down to 4.37gb using either DVD2One or DVD Shrink. I use this mode if I wish to create a virtual copy of the source DVD...menus, movie, extras and all. In the settings, I have the 4 boxes at the bottom all checked, and select files is set to *all*, but I do NOT check multi angle processing. On the right, I have stream processing set to search at 50,000 sectors.

While I am not an expert at all this, I figgered it might be best to show u what works for me. That way u can play with it and decide for yerself what works best for u on yer system. Hope this helps.

  4. There are several reasons to rip in ISO mode.

    1) If the disc is DVD5 you can use DVD Decrypter to back it up. Choose 'Mode | ISO - Read' to generate an ISO image file, then choose 'Mode | ISO - Write' select and burn the image file. This is also the method I normally use to make copies of my DVDR discs. I can leave the ISO image on the HD and burn as needed.

    2) It's one file, instead of several VIDEO_TS folders. If you plan to rip a lot of discs it's easier sorting and storage

    3) I can mount the ISO image with Daemon Tools and create a virtual DVD-ROM drive. Then use that a source for editing/backups (eg. DVD Shrink, DVD2One, TMPGenc, etc).

    4) Archiving discs.
