i am trying to decide if i should convert my cds to mp3, or wma for use on a portable mp3 player. i want the files to sound as close to the original cd as possible without taking up the 40 megs per song that WAV does. on my mp3 player, i currently have VBR mp3s at about 90% quality. i cant really tell the difference between these and the cds, but i was wondering if WMA would give me same/better quality for a lower file size. btw, i have 30 gigs on my mp3 player so file size isnt really a problem, i would just rather not store the songs as raw PCM. thanks.

Yes, WMA will give better compression ratios... If you have 30 Gb to burn though, don't go for something that "MAY" sound as good. Just go for something that is known to be transparent to the original audio (i.e., LAME MP3 encoder, VBR using the --r3mix setting).Originally Posted by xsbs52x
