  1. Before I write 0 to my computer drive and completely re-installed everything on it, I didn't have this problem.

After I re-installed everything on my PC and changed the fan, I can't seem to add any hardware to my PC via USB ports. I can't hook up my printer or anything else. When I hooked up the printer via one of the USB ports, the New Hardware Wizard came on saying that it detected a new hardware and I proceeded my inserting the printer CD to install its driver. However, the Wizard went through and said it wasn't able to detect the driver and gave me a message saying that the new hardware was not successfully added. I tried hooking it via different USB ports on my PC but same problem. This is the same printer I had prior to re-installing my PC. Btw, I have window XP.

I checked these USB ports at the Device Manager and they seems to be fine. I mean no signs of malfunctioning.

Does anyone know what could possible be the problem?

  2. Have you reinstalled the USB drivers for your motherboard? Not sure if this is necessary under Windows XP, but it might help.

  3. How do I reinstall the USB drivers for the motherboard? I'm really dump at this stuff. Basically, I had a tech person from Gateway walked me through the whole process. Maybe it's a step that he forgot?

Do you know what I need to do in order to check or to reinstall the USB drivers for the motherboard?

  4. Unfortunately, I don't know how to do that. I also had a look on Gateway's site but I couldn't find any mention of USB drivers, which makes me think I'm barking up the wrong tree. You'd be best off e-mailing Gateway and asking them what the problem is, unless anyone else can suggest a solution.

    Sorry I can't help out.
