I have a Time PC with windows XP Home edition, service pack 2.

When I bought it a few years ago, it definately had usb 2.0, but now when I connect my digital camera, no matter which port I plug it into, up pops a box telling me to plug it in to a highspeed port. But none of them seem to be any more.

it tells me to click to see a list of high speed ports, when I do so it lists "VIA USB 2.0 enhanced host controller" with a + dropdown to writing in bold saying "USB root hub (6 ports)" and six icons below, with "unused port" beside them"

Someone told me that the service pack updates caused this problem.

is there any way to solve this?

    Thanks.

You may have this problem or this.

You can also check if your motherboard has newer usb or other chipset drivers.

Go back to device manager and uninstall each device under universal serial bus controllers, finally followed by the main "universal serial bus controllers"

Reboot the system and it will automatically detect and install the device drivers, reboot again after

Always handy to have the latest drivers for motherboard ... some of those via powered motherboards actually came with usb2 drivers

The "unused port" is questionable and should not exist ... they just exist or declare error state

Quite possible its another "corrupted driver" syndrome which happens ... but worth checking you bios setup and motherboards battery
