Ok, to clarify a recurring question I get & which is posted on this forum, I'm going to make this one sticky.

Often people post because they get empty VIDEO_TS folders or the process hangs or because the get the PROCESS ABORTED message.

Now whilst a bug in SVCD2DVD may have been discovered, in 95% of cases it is the source files which are to blame.

    So whats happening?

Whilst the mpgs may play ok in WMP or even when burnt to CDR as a SVCD it doesn’t mean that they are fully compliant from a mpeg specification point of view. Why? Because software players are much more forgiving than software applications which need to process and manipulate mpeg streams. These applications can’t make guesses - they need to know what is in the stream and the only way that occurs is by ensuring the streams comply with the MPG specification.

(Interestingly, if the mpg looks ok when the file is demultiplexed on of the elementry treams may also cause issues.)

So here’s me theory. Using DVD-lab or TMPGenc mpeg tools you will get the following complaints about the mpegs:

If this is the case then you will need to re-encode the mpg otherwise it can't be processed by most applications.

  2. Now the next thing in above case, is to get the mpg re-encoded..

I'm having trouble with that.. Got 7 original VCD's which I would like to burn/backup on DVD. But with SVCD2DVD +/- or whatever it seems to have trouble with the audio... Re-encoding with TmpgEnc couldn't be done, because TmpgEnc doesn't recognize the mpg file..

    So, I'm really stuck here!!

    Anyone?

  3. Thats a tricky one. There are a few methodes you can use. I can't give you a how to guide but you must beable to find those in the guide section.

Use virtualdub mpgac3 (not the normal one) and check if it can find error's in your mpg.
    1. If not use it to create a new mpg or avi file.
    2. Frameserver with virtualdub to tmpgenc to create you mpg.

  4. Hello,

i downloaded the demo version this weekend and bumped into this problem.

I did some research (i had to wait before i could post on the forum) and found that your theory " Using DVD-lab or TMPGenc mpeg tools you will get the following complaints" does not hold up with me.

the files i used were created by TMPGenc. they were converted from an avi file. When trying to convert them to DVD format using svcd2dvd i got the error (will post the log at the bottom). I also got this error from some (2) ripped vcd's.

This would be strange because you would think that the file i created was created with TMPGenc so that should be allright. I also loaded all of them into TMPGenc and it did not give the error from your theory.

After some testing i found that it has to do with the kind of (s)vcd you create. While trying to get a small vcd i tried the xvcd (or something) settings from within TMPGenc. My guess is that the vcd's i tried were also xvcd or atleast some format svcd2vcd does not accept but wich TMPGenc does.

so unfortunatly, using TMPGenc i can not test where the error in the file is.

When i loaded them into Virtualdub VD did give some errors but then again, if i load files into VD wich svcd2dvd works with it also gives errors so that is not a realy good way of telling anything is wrong.

so hopefully this helps a little bit to solving this problem. (or atleast, finding where the problem comes from) If i can be of further help (send files etc) let me know.

    greetings

    Henri
ps: great program (allthough my succes rate is still very low because i seem to have to much "corrupted" files
ps2: Your demo version does not put the 30 seconds trailer in front of the clips.

    ---------error log---------------

I have everything set at default. Did not change any settings. I have tried it now with “skip audio resampling” because I wanted to test if that might help. Unfortunatly it did not, there must be something wrong in the MPEG files….

    I have added some comments.

  6. I will work on it tomorrow. I will create an mpg and will discribe exactly wich settings i used. That will create an mpg that will load into TMPGenc (i will create it using that) and will play on a pc, probably will also play if i make it video cd.... (not sure about that, did not test it yet but will do that tomorrow also) and if i feeling is right, svcd2dvd will not convert the file.

Will upload it tomorrow and let you know when finished.

    greetings

  8. Yes, would have been good if i could have reproduced the errors....

first of all, i gave it a fast little try and was confused that it suddenly did work. I unfortunatly deleted the images i had from my HD so i could not give it a try with those (i succeded in making MPG's svcd2dvd would read using mainconcept mpegencoder) but after doing the TMPeg process again, with the exact same settings, suddenly svcd2dvd did not give any problems.

You don't know it yet but i know i am not crazy... so i know there was a problem before...

    there are 2 possibilities.

    1) i almost never reboot. I work on W2K and that works fine, hardly ever needs a reboot. But, between svcd2dvd not working and working again i rebooted. Only thing i could imagine being of influence of that is the file creation wich ends with _D.mpg instead of the _DVD.mpg Is that normal in the process ? Because after it creates the _D files and if it neads _DVD files, it will not find the files and halt the process.

    2) using TMPeg i again created files that did not work the first time. I tried this same process again but now they did work. However, i used a different computer the first time. Maybe... just maybe... that is where the difference comes from. (i actualy can not imagine it... but it being computers, everything is possible)

So, i am still trying to replicate it. Did not have much time last few day's so wanted to leave a message so you know i still have it in mind.

    greetings

  9. ok, found the original bin file again with the same problem. conversion does not work however svcd2dvd extracts the file without problems (as far as i can tell) At the end however i end up with an empty video_ts directory.

when trying to open the mpg file wich svcd2dvd extracted using TMPeg i get an error message however a different error than you subscribe in this subject namely "can not open or unsuported".

With Mainconcept i can open the file and it seems to be able to convert it also (40 minutes to go till completion, will let you know the result later)

Now what do you want me to do ? I don't know if and how to cut this piece of video into pieces i can upload. Don't mind uploading the complete 800MB if you want me to. Let me know. If you want me to cut it, let me know wich software to use because TMPeg will not load it. I hope that after the cutting it will still give the problem.

Here's the log file of the creation that did not work.
