  1. Is anyone able to get 720x480 30fps using this combination? I know this is a reatively old 8bit bt card so I don't hold much hope for this.

I am more than willing to buy another card if necessary. I don't need hardware mpeg or FM or anything extra.

All I am interested is quality 720x480 30fps Stereo captured as a AVI file. What is simplest card that can deliver this resolution? I have read up on the 9 bit and 10 bit decoder but there doesn't seem to be much consensus on whats better.

I have used my VCR, digital camcorder, 1394 port and Pinnacle Studio 8 for recording analog cable and the results turned out great. My only problem is the inability to schedule unattended recordings. The AVI files will be edited with Studio 8 and burned to DVD for playback in set top DVD player.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

  2. I have been reading a lot of the comments under each of the capture cards in the chart, and as usual there is good and bad about all of them.

I really don't need a recommendation (I know sometimes people are reluctant to make those not knowing the other person's system) I was just looking to see if anybody was successfully capturing 720 x 480 30fps with VirtualVCR and if so what card they were using. I understand just because it works for someone else doesn't mean it will work for me. I have looked at the commercial packages (such as WinDVR3) and it appears they only capture in mpeg. They say they output in multiple formats but after reading the WinDVR3 user guide it appears they do this by transcoding. I am interested in the initial capture being AVI so I can use a relatively lossless codec.

    Thanks
