    Let me ask my wife....

Ok, I broke down and actually read the manual for this thing and there is nothing in here that tells you much about the set up of this wonderful device.... Since I trust the experience of the good folks on here more than I trust the sales guy at the local Gateway store, here goes:

When hooking this recorder up via the RF cable hookups (in and out), I'm assuming that I'm supposed to tune in a certain channel on the TV to see the output from the recorders RF out? (much like a standard VCR hookup - channel 3 or 4 - depending on the model and switch setting)

Am I missing something here, because the 'manual' mentions nothing on this and I am getting nothing on any channel I tune in....

Does anyone here have this model? If so, am I missing something?

    Thanks much...

  2. RF out on this one is just passtrough. It means that if you connect output from unit to TV, you can tune channels on TV, but you can't receive signal from recorder. For that you need to use component or S-Video or other available output.

  3. BTW: I believe that it is same as LiteOn LVW-5001 but with Gateway logo and firmware in it.

So the RF connectors are not used to send the output to a TV, but from what I read, they do allow the channels from your cable to be recorded...

    Am I correct on that?

As for seeing the setup menu, I'll have to change my hookups around tonight when I get home and all should be good on that....

    Thanks again.

  5. This is what I think is going on.

Signal from RF IN is send to internal (in DVD Recorder) TV tuner and also just linked to RF OUT

Part that changes internal video/audio signal (menu e.t.c) to RF is not included in DVD Recorder. Part that I believe is known as RF Modulator and as external device it is available for people that buy DVD Player but their TV does not have component input but only RF input.

BTW: It kind of makes sense. DVD picture quality is much higher than RF can provide so they are saving some cost by not implementing it.
