I copied about 20 DV avi files to 4 DVD-R's in order to free up some space for another project. When i came to transfer the files back onto my system i was OK for about half the files then I started getting this mesage
Data Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check)
and the copying stopped!! Argh!
Where could this be coming from? Is there a program that will rip the contents of my disk which is more powerful than the standard eindows copy facilty?
Cheers

sikburns,
"Data Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check)" means something wrong with your media (i.e. DVD). It could be the followings:
* Media is dirty
* Media is scratch
* Cheap media can have a unreadable sector, even though you have a successful burn.
So when your software encounter that sector, it produced the above error. You can try another DVD-ROM reader to see if it can read it. In my experience, some DVD reader can read it better than others.

Sikburns,
I think it is the drive. I had this drive for few days before. I burnt 2 movie dvd-r's with it and both burned fine. But when I tried to extract one of the movies on my work computer, it failed. Then I noticed on the disc closely very small black streaks 'radially' on the later part of the disc. I may be wrong but I believe the burner over burnt that little portion and my dvd-rom couldn't read past that point. I had saved those compressed movie files on my home computer before and I burned them on the same brand disc(Pine) with Pioneer 106 writer and it played back fine.
