  1. I've had a play with moviefactory (ulead) but it doesn't seem to accept AC3 streams. TMPGEnc DVD author doesn't mind them, but I want to try a few more about before buying, because I'm not sure I like the TMPGnc menu creation system...
    thanks

  2. MF2 will accept AC3 as long as your MPEG file is DVD compliant and you do NOT have MF2 re-encode. Ignore the error message that you get when importing.

I've used it but to be sure author to a directory and use PowerDVD to check the files before burning.

  3. I thinkl that DVD-Lab supports them. Check the website before taking my word for it.

Tim's right even though Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2 isn't officially an AC-3 authoring application - simply check the DO NOT CONVERT COMPLIANT MPEG FILES checkbox in the project settings.

Ulead's DVD Workshop AC-3 is the version that officially supports AC-3 authoring:

  6. DVDLab does indeed support AC3 -- works great with it, and doesn't reencode (something you definitely want out of your authoring tool).

30 day full featured trial version available (so no excuse not to at least try it). Link at left.

  7. Would personally recomend DVD-lab, it is powerful, easy to use and cheap, and allows for AC3!

I have used it for three projects now, used to use DVD-it, then Ulead, then moved to Maestro, but now I only use DVD-lab. Has most of the power of Maestro but much easier.

  8. This Probably a very old question, Does any one know where can I get a copy of DVDMaestro?
Another Question, I need to add closed caption not subtitle to my DVD. Is there is any tools other than Maestro and Scenarist? I know how to create the closed caption file but I can not find the authoring system to added to my DVD?

  9. Maestro was made by Spruce Technologies. Long story short they got bought out by apple and all their programs got shelved/canned, so you can't buy maestro. There are a few movies floating around ebay (new and used).

I think it's safe to assume that most people here got maestro from a p2p program

  10. There are a few more that support AC3 audio: neoDVD Plus, inexpensive and reelDVD, expensive.

  11. I've had a play and quite like DVd-lab, but wouldn't mind something that converts to AC3 for me, rather than having to do it using another tool (ie besweet)...will any of these others be able to do this for me?

    thanks

DVD Architect from Sonic Foundry (now Sony) will automatically convert audio to AC3, but it's only available bundled with Vegas 4.0 (which is quite expensive).

  15. There are two new versions of Ulead DVD MovieFactory (both are version 3.0).

One of the new versions is called the DISC CREATOR version.

    This new DISC CREATOR version...

    ...supports AC-3 audio.

Of course, Ulead DVD Workshop AC-3 also supports AC-3 audio.

TmpgENC DVD Author accepts AC3 audio just fine if first extracted from AVI (or other source) and then run through BeSliced to remove header. I've been doing just that to get 5.1 AC3 sound from original AC3 .avi files converted to MPEG2.
