Does anyone know why there is a big difference in the audio level when capturing audio through the line-in vs. using What-You-Hear?
I have a cassette deck hooked up to the Line-In of the Audigy2 and there is a big difference in the audio level when using Line-In vs. What-You-Hear.
I have the same settings on the Creative Mixer in both tests. The Line-In is set to 100% and the Record Level is set to 80%. When I set the Creative Recorder to use Line-In, the audio input meters might hit 50% but when I switch to What-You-Hear, the input meters jump up and hit the peaks to the point of distortion unless I back the Record Level down.
Even if I increase the Record Level to 100% and keep Line-In at 100%, I get the same result when capturing only from Line-In. It is like the Line-In is set to a predetermined level.
The card seems to be processing the audio signal and apparently boosting/enhancing it when recording using What-You-Hear.....and the audio sounds much better using What-You-Hear as well. The downside is that extraneous sounds from other Windows apps will be captured as well should they happen to play during the audio capture.
Thanks
