Does anyone know which 8X +R burner(s) change the booktype from +R to DVD-ROM, straight out of the box, without firmware flash/update?

    tompika,

Which one is better, BenQ or Nu-Tech? Are there any +RW &-RW dual format burners would change the booktype to DVD-ROM?

    Thanks,

  3. The dual format Nec1300 can bitset too with a hacked firmware

The NuTec is a plus only drive at the moment but will be a multiformat drive with a firmware update. It will be able to bitset on both plus and minus medias!

Lite-On 811s also with newest (not hacked) firmware.

straight out of the box, without firmware flash/update?
It's generally a good thing to update the firmware if you have any issues with compatibility. They do usually help increase the quality of the burn with different media.
In the particular case of the 811s, it also allows changing the booktype.

The BTC drive supports changing bitsetting for DVD+RW and DVD-RW (but no DVD+R support, last time I checked).

I'm under the impression that the DVD-R format cannot be "bitset" ... even if some NuTec tech claims it ... I'm still not believing it. It would not need a bitset of the format is already exclaimed to be DVD-ROM in type.

The HP400i lets you change the booktype without a firmware flash.

    Thank you all.

I guess I settle for HP 400i, since it is 8X &it changes the booktype to DVD-ROM by default.

You should read that thread again.
Its developed by Nic Wilson the author of DVDInfoPRO.

  11. Thanks, I did.

First of all thanks for answering me about the DVD+RW rewriting
    (email a month ago)

I think I'm right that it was not claimed by 'some NuTec tech' but Nic.

Well even if it's not compliant with the -R spec it may come in handy in some cases.

And yes I would call it a kinda bitsetting since I have no other word for it.

This is incorrect for DVD-R. The media already has the book code written in the embossed area(Control data area). Maybe nic is actually setting a DVD+R/RW disk to a -R bookcode but I do not see how this is accomplished with DVD-R. Sounds like BS from QSI(Nutech). The Forum would allow such a thing with an approved format. The +R/RW format can get away with it since it was outside the forum.

    Clearly not...

  14. Is this a Multi-border disk? If so, I don't see the point since most DVD players cannot play a Multi-border DVD-R disk. It might be possible on a DVD-RW disk since the end session on the previous border is overwritten.
