I followed a guide here for burning DL with Imgburn, using a Memorex +DL (consider this an experiment, so please no replies that I should have used Verbatim). Nero Dvdspeed shows it's Ritek S04.
I'm using a Philips 8701 burner (real brand is Benq) - I changed the booktype for Benq to Dvd-ROM, but the burnt dvd shows in Decrypter and in NeroDvd Speed as Dvd+DL. Is it possible to still change it's book type to Dvd-ROM (I thought I read somewhere that it could be done after burning)?

I took a look at a Verbatim DVD+R DL disc that I burned and it still shows up as a Verbatim DVD+R DL disc with ImgBurn. I don't know if you can set booktype after burning, but I wouldn't count on it.

I had a burner that was going bad (I had to get a replacement - thank you Newegg for your 1 year warranty!) and one of the symptoms I got was that it would misidentify DVD+R DL discs as being single layer. I cannot say for certainty that your drive is going bad, but you might keep an eye on it.

Maybe it's +RW that can still have the booktype changed after burning.
It seems to play fine in my old Pioneer dvd player, and both my burners recognize the disc (haven't tried saving it back the the pc yet). I was just hoping to make it dvd-rom.

Most DVD players likely won't have an issue with it either way. This was more of an issue years ago. You are more likely to have media support issues between players than an issue with having a DVD bitset issue.

No, it probably did not change. It's booktyped to DVD+R DL and you're stuck with it. Try again next time, before burning, using ImgBurn. Do booktype first.

I changed the booktype (using the Imgburn program) after I loaded the video files into Imgburn build mode, but before burning. Do you mean I should have changed the booktype before loading the video files?

Another thought...not all burners support bit setting. So whether you set it or not won't matter if your burner doesn't support it.
