  1. Hi there,

I am new to this thread, but my friend has a problem with his G3 iMac. I do not own a Mac so therfore I have come here for advice. I have searched but not really found what I am looking for (maybe I haven't looked hard enough or in the right place) but here is the deal,

my friend has a iMac g3 with a external burner. What he wants to do is conver his footage that he has editied in FInal Cut Pro and encode it in MPEG2 format. He went to the Mac store and asked for advice and they told him to purchase iDvd but when he looked closer at the box he found out that it won't burn on a external DVD burner. He asked and they told him that this was true. Now is there a program for the Mac that will encode to MPEG2? If so, where can this be obtained? Are there any free ones? I really appreciate the help, thanks in advance,

    cheers
    Alex

Bitvice will work fine on a G3 iMac. This software doesnt require Altivec support. MPEG2 encoding on a G3 will seem glacially slow, so your friend should have reasonable expectations.
