I need a good program. Some advice please.

I need a program to convert .mkv to .avi or .mpeg.

I have AlltoAvi however it crashes my computer. Any other ideas? I'd prefer if it were free.

I have used super to convert MKV to mpeg

also the newer version of convertXdvd does this, at least it has been recommended for this

but i have had several MKV files that had to be demuxed, the video stream and audio streams extracted, before i could convert them to DVD

what streams are in the MKV file have you used mediaInfo or Gspot to get that info, then maybe somebody could give you a more detailed answer

AVI Demux can also do it, or if you are heading for DVD, FAVC, DVD Flick or ConvertXtoDVD.

ConvertXtoDvD converts MKV to DvD easily - pretty much any codec.

As for converting to "AVI", what exactly do you want to do, DivX, Xvid, uncompressed AVI,...?
