  1. Ok, my dvd editing prog doesnt accept avi files. So what is the best program just to convert to mpeg, WITH SOUND. Just changing the file kind, nothing else.

I try converting to WMV, but that results in the sound sometimes not matching the picture. :L

    TMPGEnc will do the trick.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. I used that, but it makes my 40 minute avi into a 2 hour m2v, that doesnt have sound. How do i make just an mpeg, that comes out 40 minutes, and is the exact same, with sound?

  4. It's probably due to the fact that the AVI file has VBR audio and TMPGEnc is confused by VBR compressed audio.

Extract the audio to a wav file using Goldwave or AVI2WAV. Then with TMPGEnc select the video as the original AVI file and the AUDIO file as the newly extracted WAV file. Then go on as normal.

    This should work.

BTW -- if you use DVD2SVCD (does AVI source and VCD, DVD output, as well) in conjunction w/ TMPGENc, it will handle all of this and more for you in the background. Great tool !!!

If you're making a DVD then your authoring program should accept your video (M2V) and audio (wav) as seperate streams.

  10. pump the m2v and wav into tmpgenc dvd author. That will create a video_ts folder and then burn with something like nero or dvd decrypter.
    If it's wet, drink it

  11. how do i make the tmpgenc program just make one file, an mpeg file, with audio and video. Also, if i use the tmpgenc authoring program, would i be able to make a file that i could use in other authoring programs? Also, when i made this file, the m2v file seemed skippy and sometimes froze, was that just because my windows media player just doesnt have the right codec?
