  1. I have tried some free trial version tools to convert the video file format but none of them gave me the option to conver WMV to AVI or MPEG. Is there any other way to convert WMV? I searched but didn't find what I needed. So I am seeking your help. Thanks!

SUPER or WinAVI are two simple ways. If you want more control and quality, then it's not so simple. TMPGEnc encoder can do some WMV formats. Or you could use Windows Movie Maker and output as DV AVI, then convert that to a different format, such as Xvid or other AVI type formats. Or use a MPEG encoder if you want a MPEG-2 DVD type format. Many other ways also.

    And welcome to our forums.

The most reliable way for me to avoid sync issues has been to drag and drop the WMV file into TMPGEnc and save as MPEG.

With the new version of Virtualdub (either 1.7.6 or the experimental 1.7.X_test6)

    http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?groupname=virtualdub&filename=VirtualDu...irror=internap

    http://www.virtualdub.org/beta/VirtualDub-1.7.X-test6.zip

    and the WMV plugin

You can now import WMV into Virtualdub and convert most files to AVI without sync issues. I have found that there are still some files that will not convert without sync issues. Most WMV files are variable frame rate which can cause problems.

Virtualdub-MPEG2 is created by the same person who built the WMV plugin for the new Virtualdub. The latest release of the plugin fixed the sync issues that Virtualdub-mpeg2 had (well most of them). Not sure when or if he'll release a 1.7.6 Virtualdub-MPEG2.
