  1. Hi

I have a problem playing VCD's and backed up DVD's on my DVD Player. (multiregion) It is VCD/CD-R/DVD-R compatable but plays backed up DVD's in black and white. Orginial DVD's will play fine while VCD's even orginals play without colour.

    Any help???

    thanks

Could the DVDs/VCDs have been burned into PAL and the DVD player set to NTSC or vice versa?
    Hello.

  3. right, changed the settings to PAL and the VCD's play fine

As with the DVD's when the DVD Player is set to PAL a error message appears saying "Not PAL" When I switch the settings back to Auto the DVD's play in black and white.

    thanks again

Region 1 DVD's are NTSC. Your DVD player will probably output an NTSc signal whne it sees NTSC format DVD's. Your TV needs to be able to handle this or you get B & W pictures.

Either the TV or the DVD player doesn't output NTSC properly. You can probably get some sort of external NTSC->PAL doohicky, but I don't know where offhand.

  9. Check your DVD players set up menus or manuals. SOme have the option to output NTSC material as either NTSC or PAL-60. If you can, switch it from whatever it is now to the other and see if it fixes the problem. I would expect your TV to be able to handle at least one of these.

  11. Get a computer and use a TV out card. That should get rid of your NTSC/PAL problems.
