  1. My first post and I am very new to video/dvd copying. Have spent the day looking for the correct info but not found what I am looking for yet. Everything seems to revolve around copying and editing full length movies.

I have several DVDs with lots of short music tracks, just like an LP record. I want to copy them all to my hard drive so that I can edit the tracks and then make my own compilations of the tracks before putting them back onto DVD.

The DVD's are obviously full of the required .BUP .IFO and .VOB files but how do I actually get them onto my HDD and then edit them. How do I tell which files relate to which track?

I have just got a new system with Adobe Premiere 6.5, Ulead DVD Workshop SE, and Canopus DV Capture. and a variety of other progs.

Apologies if this topic is covered on this site but a pointer in the right direction or any other help appreciated.

    Thanks, Rob

  2. Hollies,

You firstly need to "rip" your DVD. Plenty of ripping guides on this site, and here's a link to one designed to explain everything to someone who's totally new:

DVD Decryptor is probably the best for yourself. So, it's on your hard drive now in all its glory. Here's a link to the guides section you need - I'll leave it up to you to have a read and decide which you'd prefer to use:

By the way, DVD is MPEG2, just to save you barking up the wrong tree!

    Hope this helps!

you can also go this way -

use any ripper you like, get the disc onto you hard drive.

get ChopperXP and open each .vob file, until you find the material you want to keep.

cut everything else out of the vob - everything before and after the section you want to keep. name it something relevant and save it.

delete all the other vob files.

I don't recall that you said what you want to do with them - if you want to make a compilation disc, you can use an authoring program like DVD Lab that will accept vob files, import them and author your new disc.

advantages - freeware or trialware tools, no demuxing / remuxing / reencoding required.
