    Hi everyone,
I hope this is a post for the Capturing forum.
I am having problems with the playback of my captured video, burnt to dvd, on set-top players. It looks as if the video is strobing or jerky, especially in action sequences. The quality of the video looks very good, and there is no noticeable pixelation.

What I am doing is converting a new commercial VHS tape to DV via an ADS Pyro A/V Link (firewire), capturing with Ulead VS7 to a seperate HD, converting the AVI to MPEG II (720x480 CQ, CBR PCM Audio) via TMPGEnc, then authoring with TMPGEnc DVD Author, and burning with either Roxio or TMPGEnc's burning program. Also, no dropped frames with the capture.

The video looks great on my computer (PowerDVD), and looks ok when converted to MPEG II with Ulead VS7, but has problems after being burned to DVD. I have tried using three different media types, four different set-top players, two different burning programs, but same problems. I am following Lordsmurf's guide to encoding with TMPGEnc, so I don't know what's wrong.

All I can guess is that the Field Order is wrong (Field A), or that there is a conflict with the DV codec used and TMPGEnc DVD author?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Why not encode a small sample with different field order options?

    To Tommyknocker,
Good idea, I will try that out ASAP.
Q: So can field order cause these problems? I'm guessing its either a problem with TMPGEnc or TMPGEnc DVD Author, just don't know where to look first, or if this is a common problem. Thanks again.

Yes, along with pixelation problems as well. Hope it helps.

  5. I was having the same problem a week ago

Solved it by going into the Advanced Settings tab on TMPGEnc and changing the Video arrange method to Full Screen. The default was set to Full Screen: Keep Aspect Ratio.

Don't know why this fixed it but I'm not complaining

    Thanks Tommyknocker
Yes, it was the wrong field order that was causing the jerkiness in the video. I later read that DV needs Field B, which solved all my problems with TMPGEnc. Thanks...
