HI there I am very new to DVD burning, I tried to rip a DVD movie using DVD shrink, however it is saying to me that cannot open the file cause the disc is protected, I thought that DVD shrink can just rip any DVD eventhough copy protected to hard disk. Is this correct? If not, does that mean I need another software to rip it to hard disk firstly such as DVD decrypter?
Another question is: Which one do you think is better using CloneDVD + AnyDVD ( I have these two programs already) or using DVD shrink and other softwares???
thanks

Welcome to the forum Cygnusice!
Try using DVDDecrypter or similar and ripping the DVD onto your hard drive and then using DVDShrink on the ripped files!
As far as the other software you mentioned is concerned, DVDShrink has the edge of being freeware. With respect to quality, i never had any issues with DVDShrink (especially with version 3) on a 32'' widescreen Phillips TV). Keep in mind that compression of more than 80% on the main movie will have some quality issues - so, those extras might have to go still frame!!!
Good Luck!!

I read from other topic that DVD Shrink can also decrypt an original DVD movie, if this is true, shouldn't it mean that I do not have to use DVD decrypter at all?

Do you have 3.0.5Beta or 2.3? 2.3 won't decrypt whereas 3.0.5b will.

None of my DVD collection is copy protected? DVDShrink 2.3 has opened EVERY DVD in my collection.
DVDDecrypter is 9 times out of 10.... NOT NECESSARY.
If DVDShrink has trouble....it is usually at the beginning of a DVD. Just play the DVD in your computer's DVD player for a couple of minutes and the hang-up will most likey disappear. -

).
A simple workaround is to play the dvd in your software player for a few seconds, pause it, and then start the DVD Shrink process.
2.3 won't decrypt whereas 3.0.5b will.

However, it sometimes happens DVD Shrink cannot read a disc, most often than not because it is damaged or dirty.
That's when DVD Decrypter comes in handy.
