When my original DVDs get too many thumbprints on them, I wash them with detergent and wipe them dry with a tissue paper. Is this bad?
If not, can I do this with CDRs and DVDRs?

I woukl invest a couple bucks on a disc cleaner. The item was made specifically for cleaning disks. I don't know about the detergent/tissue paper process, but why take chances?

errr, I normally use furniture polish, the spray on type that is used for general dusting, and a duster thats been washed a few times so its nice 'n' soft
Mr. Sheen or similiar product
Works, and its cheap, as yet, no damage done, and does a very good job of removing greasy prints and other nasties that get attached to the surface -
Whether you use glass cleaner or alcohol I find it's very important to buff the disk with a lens cleaning cloth to remove any "cloudiness" left by the cleaning method.

Never tissue paper, how do you get the dust of?
Dry clean soft all cotton cloth works fine. Old cloth diapers are good, or an old flannel shirt.
Alchohal can affect the glue at the edges of your disk.
Plain water works fine.
Window cleaner (ammonia based) can work okay, don't overdo it.To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
or search for lint-free cloths ... they are used in criminal forensic investigations and are gtd not to leave any lint(cloth fibres),, they are actually cut by laser beam into small squares.

Lemon scented Pledge works the best, along with at soft, lintfree cotton cloth. The wax in the Pledge fills in any small scratches, makes all my disks (even the beatup ones) play perfectly

Ahhh yes, Pledge. Works wonders on plastic lens eye-glasses as well.

I breathe out hard on them and use my shirt. I find clean shirts work best. Water + shirt works for me too.

If it's a rental dvd that I could care less about I just use plain old dishwashing liquid, rinse and buff with a shirt.
