Printing on non-printable discs

Has anyone tried printing on non-printable,matte discs? I have 50 burned dvds that I don't want to sticky label but might like to have a less than perfect print on. Does this harm the printer(Epsonr300)?

I doubt it'll harm the printer any, but you won't get a usable print either.

"Printable surface" discs have a permeable top-surface layer that's very similar to inkjet photo paper, in that it allows the ink to penetrate past the surface to be soaked up and bound inside the print layer. Your garden-variety "non-printable" discs have no such layer -- in fact, the top surface is quite impermeable, so the ink will just collect as a bunch of drops and blobs.

Have some paper towels handy....don't think the plastic is going to absorb the ink very well.....

Won't work. I tried this several months back and the ink just sat on the surface. After about a week, it pooled up into droplets on the surface. It never dried. Predictable outcome, I know, but it was a coaster, might as well have some fun.

I also tried spraying some Krylon Matte finish on a silver-top disc and printing to it after the matte finish dried. It worked okay, but not great. If you could apply the matte finish even consistenly, you might find some success. Good luck!

Thanks for the input. I'll stay away from that experiment. Went for the sticky route and it worked fine. No probs with the pc dvd nor the home theater.Think I'll keep trying with the stickys till I get the jet prints

Stick a plain label on the disc and then print on that...

Oh. No. Hang about. That kind of defeats the object, doesn't it ?
