Canopus not starting

I have a movie i downloaded which is using a Xvid codec. I startup Canopus as i have done before and i put in all the required settings but when i say start conversion, it says on the bottom that is it converting. But the video preview does not show anything. The check mark is checked. The estimated time and fps and that whole part just has dashes on it. I have left it overnight just to find out that it had done nothing. But the cpu gets used 100%. It is also not converting another Xvid codecd video. I think it has a problem with Xvid.
any suggestions?

Use either avicodec or gspot to make sure you have the right codecs installed. They are available in the tools section.
