Hi people, have been looking around for soft encode for the svcd2dvd program.
Am a full registered owner of svcd2dvd but can't find the soft encode software anywhere to download, anyone give suggestions of where to get it and which version i need to work in svcd2dvd.
Thanks,

I have revisited ffmpeg 0.4.8 tonight. The AC-3 "bug" it once had has been fixed. I shall keep you posted.

Well initial results are very encouraging:
800MB mpeg, demuxed, resample audio component to a 48KHz WAV file. This is used for the source for both encoders....
SoftEncode: 448Kbs AC-3 2.0 encode: 37 minutes
FFMpeg 0.4.8: 448Kbs AC-3 2.0 encode: 2 minutes 45 seconds!!!!
The AC-3 stream IS DVD compliant:
Code:File size: 202,288,128 bytes AC-3 File type: Non-Intel byte order (0x0b) Total frames: 112,883 Frame size: 1,792 bytes Sample rate: 48,000 Hz Data rate: 448 kbps Audio coding mode: 2/0 (L, R) Bit stream mode: Main audio service: Complete main Dialog normalization: -31 dB Center mix: None Surround mix: None Copyright: Off Original: On Start time: 00:00:0.00 * End time: 01:00:12.26 Status: No errors were found
These are my initial findings. If there are any AC-3 users who want to do some tests - email me.SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

Mmm, well in the history a AC-3 related bug was fixed - so I'm not sure. I shall do some more investigations.

vcddude tested ffmpeg 0.4.8
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=673882#673882 ...doesn't look good... -
Bad news. After looking at the ffmpeg devel mailing list I see that fix should be present & working.....

I shall try the latest CVS (several updates since my last compile) and produce a NTSC/AC3 sample DVD (VIDEO_TS). We can then ask vcddude et al to test.SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

what it does http://www.acterna.ru/library/appnotes/mpeg/mpeg_dolby_elementary_stream_analysis.shtml
where to get it it (and more info) http://www.ktechtelecom.com/MProbe2002.htm
but looks like its no longer sold -- though its used by just about every major compressionist .. nothing else comes close .. wonder if anyone now owns the rights to it ... hmmmm .. it was very expensive .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -

MProbe looks good. As does DProbe by the same people.
I have provided a DVD sampler for all to test who are interested. People who have the following DVD players in particular:
Pioneer DV-525
Pioneer DV-343
Pioneer DV-37
Pioneer DV-525
Pioneer DVL-909
It is the train vob trailer from http://www.cinenow.com. demuxed, AC3->WAV using HeadAC3he. WAV->AC3 using ffmpeg (ffmpeg-cvs-2003-10-08). DVD authored using Meastro:
Code:Video: Stream: Type: Interlaced MPEG2 Bitrate: 9.800 Mbps Framerate: 29.970 Hz Resolution: 720x480 Aspect ratio: 4x3 Audio: Stream: Type: Dolby Digital (AC3) Bitrate: 448 Kbps Number of main channels: 2 LFE Channel: None Sampling Frequency: 48khz Bits Per Sample: 16
Lets see what the Pioneers make of it.SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.
