    Hi all,

I have a home-made 2-hour DVD-R that I am trying to recover the MPEG files from. I have used DVDDecryptor to rip the disc and get about 65 read errors at 96% complete, which is not too big a problem by itself because there is not anything that important at that point in the disc. (I told it to ignore further read errors and it makes it to the end of the disc.)

I end up with an AC3 audio file (with 2 channel stereo) which I know how to handle, and 4 .m2v files. (3 are 1G and one is 580 MB.)

I am trying to use the TMPGEnc MPEG Tools to merge the .m2v files back into one long file, and end up with an .mpg file. I tried the Simple Multiplex tab and when I load in the 1st .m2v file, it works fine. When I load in any of the other 3 .m2v files, I get the error, "Illegal MPEG Video Stream".

If I try the same thing with the Multiplex tab, and click the add button, all but the 1st .m2v file is ignored with no error.

If I could get past this, my next step would be to use the MPEG Tools Merge & Cut function to combine the resulting .mpg files into one file.

Anyone have any ideas what I should try? I don't have any reason to believe that the 2nd and 3rd .m2v files are bad since the errors didn't occur until 96%. Is there any other way to combine the .m2v files to end up with an .mpg file? I don't really need the audio at this stage because I can import it into my video editor.

    Thanks alot for any help!

    Mike

P.S. If it matters this is a PAL video.

I understand that the DVD material is MPEG-2 video and AC3 audio.

You should aim to split the contents into a single .m2v file and a single .ac3 file.

In DVDDecrypter, go to Tools-->Settings-->IFO Mode.

On the File Splitting selector, (which should normally display 1GB) change that to None, i.e. no file splitting.

Once you do this, DVDDecrypter should give you a single .m2v file and a single .ac3 file.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  3. You could try TMPGEnc DVD Author (30 day trial avalaible). Set up a new project, then for a source select the "add DVD video" option. Select the title from the DVD you want and hit next. Then check the "Copy the clip video data to the HDD" and give it a destination, then hit ok.

The MPG in its entirety is copied to your hard drive.

The other way I've done it is to use VOBEdit to demux your video and audio streams the multiplex with TMPGEnc.

    Hope this helps

Thanks so much for your replies. I tried the "None" setting as suggested in DVDDecryptor, and of course, it worked exactly like you said. I can now load the m2v file into the TMPGEnc MPEG Tools, and can remux the streams.

I will also keep the suggestion about DVD Author in mind for other projects.

    Thanks again!
