I'm using an OptoriteDD0203. I tried them in Nero6 and I get a "tracking or focus error" says its is burning at 4x but clearly it is not. Then I switched to Decrypter and it only burns at 1x. The discs are from PC Club and are orange on top and labeled 4x dvd-r's. Reading them under Decrypter says they are Riteks. The same happened to some Apple 4x discs. Except they were coasters after using Decrypter and burned at a rate of about a 1x though the program said it was burning at 4x. Weird.
Is there something I'm missing or is the whole speed thing really a big trick to buy the more expensive ones that supposedly burn faster?
Please advise in any way.

What burner are you using, and what's telling you that it's burning at 1x?
Would you like some candy, little girl? -
I'm using an OptoriteDD0203.
In Decrypter, while it is burning, there is a counter/meter (whatever you wanna call it) that says how fast it is currently burning.
In Nero6, there is also an area there that says how fast it is burning.
BTW I just updated to Decrypter3.1.7 and it still giving me the same problems. -
Have you checked in Windows Device Manager to make sure you have DMA enabled on your burner? Being in PIO mode will cause a 1x burning time.

DVDDecryptor can use 4 differnt driver layers. Which one are you using? It's a setting in DVDDecryptor.
And yes, it could be a PIO mode issue, the speed is right. If you unplugged a CDRW/CDROM and plugged in the DVDRW it could be in PIO mode. Delete the device and reboot. To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
Gazorgan,
I've wondered about those different driver layers---which one is to be used? Or does it depend on OS? I have WinXP Pro. But I also have the latest ASPI drivers, but I know Decrypter is defaulted to a different (forget which??). Thanks. -
As I recall from memory, SPTI is the 3rd one on the list and is an XP/W2K native driver. the WNASPI is the one you need to install from adaptec, whereas the ASPI is another native one for XP/W2K(or do I have that flipped?). Try ripping tests with all 3. I know one of them will always work, but usually at 1x, at least for ripping.
The 4th one never worked for me, not sure if it's 16-bit or what.To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
How do I know which one I'm currently using?
Are these layers available for download on this site? If not, please direct me to a link if possible.
