  1. Hey all I hope soneone can help me before I start to lose my mind.

For years I have always used Verbatim or Datawrite DVD-R discs without a single hitch.

Before Christmas I bought a caketin of

    TDK DVD-R DVD recordable/DVD inscriptable
    4.7 GB Single Sided DVDs
    1-16X speed in a pack of 100. (

I tried to use the first ones last night and this morning with problems. Now I am beginning to wonder if I have gone mad!

Using Windows XP Home edition on Two seperate Laptops and one desktop.
    NEC DVD rewriter.
Nero and Windows expolrer and also ConvertXtoDVD by vso.

I took the DVDs back to maplin and he used a tablet and a dvd rewriter and got some photos burned on one DVD. I have come home and tried again and none of hte DVD I have tried work. I can't burn TV shows via ConvertXtoDVD I cannot burn photos to DVD va windows explorer on BOTH laptops and I cannot even access the DVD to format them.

I need help. Can anyone help me with this please. I fully intend to go back to maplins tomorrow and insist on a refund in full or swapped with a set of Verbatims.

    Thanks in advance.

Bad burns are usually the result of low quality media. It could be that your burner is simply going bad, but I'd put the finger of blame on the media. Lower quality media may require a new write strategy. Things that can maybe help with those discs...
    1) Update the firmware.
    2) Don't use Nero! ImgBurn is free and much more reliable.
    3) Burn at a slower speed such as 4x or 2x. Try even 1x if you have to. You may be burning at the highest speed and some DVD media does not really burn reliably at 16x.

I live in the USA so I don't keep up with TDK elsewhere, but in the USA TDK has not been good quality media for some years now. If your discs do not say Made in Japan then I would guess that your European TDK discs are now also made by lower quality manufacturers.

TDK are garbage. They are the only ones I know who even manage to screw up CD media as well....except the 800MB CDs....those are/were good if you can find them.

1: Check for updated firmware for all your current burners and apply ... reboot and re-test
2: Use imgburn to do the test write only.
3: Nero should have produced a log ... nerohistory.log ... it may indicate the most likely cause of the burn issue.

Before posting the log please remove the user name and applications license key from the very start of the log

    ----

4: Dvd-r or dvd+r should never be formatted.
5: If all else fails you should return them for exchange.

There are simply too many drive makes and models to compare as to media failure but TDK is something to avoid ever since they outsourced the media production.

If you do swap them for Verbatim, don't let them give you the "Life Series" Verbatims. Those are just CMC disks in a Verbatim package and are a bit hit or miss.

Look for AZO on the packaging of the Verbatims to get the better ones.

    Inferior grade blanks.
Too bad it's not RITEKF1 TDK-brand -- that would have probably been fine.
    Go back to Verbatim.
Not Datawrite, which is seconds, rejects and fakes.

  8. Thanks

Time to get the old "get Angry" hat on and give them hell.

I can't see why they burned some photos on his tablet and DVD rewriter. Any Ideas. I think the Tablet was windows 7.

Yes. We've basically already told you why, but possible answers are...
    1) His burner has a more updated firmware than yours.
    2) He burned at a lower speed.
    3) He burned a lot less to disc than you did and didn't burn enough for an error to be generated.

Some combo of the above is your answer.

Your burner is really OLD. A Nec 2510 was one of the earliest burners allowing to burn DVD+R DL...
Probably most important beside the crappy media you have chosen is the fact that your burner is external (USB) ............

Either get reliable dvd media now and test with your old burner or also buy a newer one for approx. 30 bucks and make usage of newer media and more speed.

PS: Be aware that your 2510 is ATAPI(IDE and most newer burners are SATA (in case you want to swap the new drive into the enclosure).

PS: Never ever use MAX as the burnspeed.

  11. Sorry all I forgot to reply to this earlier ....

I took back the DVDs to Maplin, they refunded an unopened pack but wanted me to send the opened ones to them to test, I got some Verbatims and burned two discs now with absolutely no problems whatsoever.

Looking forward to their customer services contacting me ...

Thanks for all the help everyone
