  1. When I open my ASF file (fixed with ASFTools), it VirtualDub1.3c says it cannot locate the WMV2 decompressor.

Does anyone know how I can fix it? Ultimately, I want to be able to convert ASF files into a VCD. I have been having great trouble doing it using all the tools I know.

Centropolis - You have a problem that I guess hasn't been properly addressed in any guide that I could find. So, here's my quick and dirty way of converting ASF to Video CD or any other mpg format I need.

    Tools needed: ASFTools and TMPGEnc

Step 1: Don't try to use ASFTools to convert your file, just use it to extract out the Audio. Under Convert choose Convert to Wav. This will allow you to Save the Audio as a Wav file for use in the next step.

Step 2: Use TMPGEnc to encode the file to mpg. Use the original ASF file as the video source and the Saved WAV file as the Audio Source. You can then encode your file using any method that TMPGEnc allows.

That's it. Very simple and easy. If you are really searching for the WMV2 decompressor then you can find it on microsft's website at:

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/winmediatech40/wmenc71/7.1/W98NT42KMe/EN-US/wmencoder71.exe

I've done it both ways and my way seems to be able to maintain the ASF quality, audio sync, and is faster and easier.

    Hope this helps,
