  1. Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good fire-wire card to be used with a Canopus ADVC-100?

I currently have a Dell machine, and a Texas Instruments firewire card, and as a result the Canopus ADVC-100 is not working with it.

The Dell machine has been rebuilt a number of times, and the ADVC100 does work.

I have read about the incompatibility between TI cards and Canopus ADVC100's.... if this is correct, can anyone recommend a good replacement?

    Thank you

  3. I bought a Koutech Firewire card from NewEgg and didn't have any problems with my ADVC-100 working in Windows XP. This card has a Ti chipset. Canopus has said that the Ti chioset problem should be a nonissue now because newer Ti chipset cards do not have the problem anymore.

    Hope this helps.

  4. I forgot to mention that I'm on Windows 2000... does that make a difference to any card recomendations?

With regards to last post.... does that mean that any new TI cards will work with the Canopus ADVC100?

    Thanks for your help

  5. No Problem. A far as I know, any new Ti chipset cards should work. Windows 2000 should also be fine. You can double check by going to the forum on Canopus' website at http://forum.canopus.com/

My card had really good reviews on NewEgg. It comes with Ulead VideoStudio 7 (I don't use it though) and a firewire cable. It also has a 5 year warranty. The stickers on the box say designed for Windows 98 through 2000 Pro. I'm having no problems with XP either.

My card is actually called the IOFLEX-FW4 and is manufactured by Kouwell. The website for support is listed as Koutech and NewEgg listed it under Koutech as well. The model number is: KW-582V2

One other note is that my motherboard has a VIA chipset which is supposed to be notorious for incompatibilities. I haven't had any problems so far.

I hope this helps. I really like the my card, but I know there are probably ones out there that are better. Mine is straight firewire with no USB connectors. I know some people like the combo cards like that, but my motherboard already has both USB 1.0 and 2.0 connectors.

    Good luck.
