  1. What I've got:
Dell Opitplex GX110 with 2 WD hard drives on the Primary IDE. On secondary I had a Lite-On CD-Rom as master and a Yamaha CRW2200E CDRW as a slave.

I swapped the Lite-On for the Sony and now after installing Sony DRU510A my floppy quit working with no IRQ conflicts listed in device manager. Also, the Sony will only recognize media if I boot up the computer with a DVD in it. If I open the tray and put a new DVD in, no dice. The writer is still recognized but it won't recognize any media in it.

I tried disabling and uninstalling the floppy which yielded the same results.

I also tried resetting the bios defaults for the IDEs with no change.

I don't want to take the Yamaha out b/c it works very well to burn CD's.

What I haven't yet tried is putting the Sony as a slave and the Yamaha as a master. I also haven't installed the upgrade for the firmware.

I also purchased a TDK DVD Writer to try in place of the Sony to see if it has the same problem.

Neither Sony or Dell could help me. There solution was what do you need a floppy for. Well, as you read the problem goes deeper. Any ideas?

  3. I'm not sure but it's a standard plug in a household connected to a power strip with the usual cast of characters attached (printer, monitor, computer) and I've never had any power issues with any of the equipment.

  4. Im talking about your computer power supply not your household supply

Usually most computers come with a standard 300W power supply, but when you have many devices and IDE drives in ur computer you could run into trouble with a lack of power (this usually results in system instability and/or devices/drives failing to work when they are used at the same time).

Try to isolate the problem by maybe disconnecting the less important drives (apart from ur burner, floppy, main hd) and see if the problem still occurs.
