Pioneer 106, read some oems can't be flashed depend on firmware. I am considering buying the oem version and have heard that there are serveral different Pioneer106 out there there 106D, 106U, 106BK (black)and other ones. From my limited readings thus far, I hear that certain models won't let you upgrade firmware. I hear 106D will let you do all firmware including hacked. Can someone please elaborate on this, please. I wanted to buy the 106bk from newegg.

You can flash the Pioneer firmware but you can't go back to your OEM specific firmware. This is just an issue if the drive dies and you have to return it and the company would see Pioneer's firmware instead of theirs. Don't know if they would detect it but it's for sure a risk that will void your warranty if they detect it.
