  1. Is a Althon 2400XP good enough to capture to DV without getting any kind of problems?

    Absolutely. More than good enough.
If you're having problems it's not because of the CPU.

  3. I agree that your Comuter is more than fast enough.
I'm using an Athlon 1.2 Gig machine and haven't dropped one frame with my Canopus ADVC-100 feeding DV to a low cost FireWire card I bought on ebay. I had plenty of dropped frames when I used S/W that attempted to encode to MPEG2 on the fly through an Analog capture card. However, a friend of mine with a 2.4 Gig machine could convert on the fly with a $30 Haupaug card and claims he dropped no frames even going directly to MPEG2. You should not be dropping frames.

If you are dropping frames, I would recommend reading the FAQ on this and other boards. Unplug your Internet connection and shut down any non-essential programs that could be causing interupts. I use 'End It All' to make certain my captures are clean. I've had success not doing this. But, I don't want to waste time on bad captures.
    Good Luck

I don't know your hardware source but DV footage is usually a straight transfer from camcorder (or capture device) to the computer via Firewire. So the coputer isn't really "capturing," just accepting a transfer of digital information. A powerful CPU isn't necessary for that.
