When I capture video to my C: drive, everything goes relatively fine (after the first 10 seconds, I'll get a skip in my video, but the rest is fine). Since I have a RAID setup, I know I should be using this drive for capturing videos. However, as soon as I click record to capture to the RAID drive, I get static in the preview and in the capture file.
I use the latest Virtual VCR and btwincap driver to capture my video from an analog VCR source.
Here's my sys configuration:
CPU: Athlon XP 2100+
Mobo: Asus A7N8X Deluxe
Hard Drives:
- 1 x 60GB Quantum AS
- 2 x 120GB SATA Maxtor w/ RAID 0
RAM: 512MB PC2700
Video: Geforce3 Ti 200
Audio: SB Live Value
Capture: Hauppauge WinTV Radio
OS: XP Pro w/ patches
I figure that I may have an interference problem?

*Update*
I've tried various combinations when resizing my videos using Dubman and VirtualDub. I've tried to go from C: to RAID Array, to RAID array to C:, only using C: and only using RAID array. The first video resized by Dubman is excellent. The rest all have a hicup @ the 8-10 sec. mark that makes the rest of the movie unplayable.
I still get static on the preview and capture file if I specify my RAID array when capturing. -
Your RAID card is generating RF interference.
1) Move it to a farther away slot (if its not embedded)
2) Make sure everything is well grounded
3) Use 80 wire IDE cables
4) Re-arrange you internal cabling
5) Re-arrange your external cabling
6) Try putting a card physically between your capture and RAID card
I've seen this problem numerous times (it happens with RAID, Video, and USB cards all the time).
The hiccup is probably from a cache underrun. Turn off your write-behind caching and it should go away.To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
Thanks Gazorgan!
I'm using the SATA cables that came with my motherboard. I'll look to see if I can't find better SATA cables. As for my IDE cables, I'm using rounded cables.
Here is a picture of my case with setup:

As you will see, the two bottom SATA hard drives (IDE hard drive is the first one) are pretty much aligned with my capture card (Hauppage WinTV Radio, green card in the middle). -
Looks like mine. Try some ferit cores over the SATA cables (or better SATA cables). Radio chack will have them, they are big iron-like donuts. Just slip them over the cables (1-3 should be enough) one at each end.....helps immensely! They are pretty cheap, less than $10 should fix you up.
