This is my first time backing up a DVD, so please bear with me

I've copied a DVD I own, and now I'm trying to burn the files to a new DVDRW to test in my player and when I try to burn the files with Nero (version 5.5.9.17) Nero pulls up an error that says "DVD-Video reallocation failed".

I'm not exactly copying the DVD, I've tweaked it a little - it was a widescreen movie that was letterboxed, so I cropped/resized/re-encoded the video, then re-authored the video and one audio stream with DVDLab, then used this guide https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=432545&highlight=keeping+original+menu#432545 to put the video and audio back in to the original menus, etc.

The folder that has all the DVD files in it says that it is 4.09GB in size, and when I load it in to Nero it says it should fit on the DVD. But then when I try to burn the files, it pulls up that error message.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

try making a disk image first with imgtools. then use nero/iso or dvddecryptor/iso/write to burn.

I just tried using imgtools, and it said that there was a failure with the reallocation of the DVD-Video files.

But you pointed me in the right direction - I used the DVD-ROM UDF mode in Nero, and then had Nero create an image file, then burnt that image file to DVD, and it works great!

I don't know why having imgtools make an image file didn't work.

    Thanks for the help

  4. doesn't it have to be udf/iso in nero if you want to play the disc in a stand alone machine?
I could dance with you till the cows came home..... on second thoughts i'd rather dance with the cows till you came home.

It doesn't have to be, but chances are the backup will not be compatible with quite a few set-tops.
(my Pioneer DV626D played UDF burned backups, but a friend's Panasonic didn't; using UDF/ISO or DVD-Video cured that)

I would use ImgTool Classic. This version does not require that you have NERO wheras the other version of ImgTool requires that you have NERO installed.

After you make an ISO IMAGE file with ImgTool Classic use DVD DECRYPTER in ISO WRITE mode to BURN it to a DVD recordable.

This is the most reliable way of burning a DVD disc in my opinion.

I know there are many that agree with me.

I'm not really concerned that it will play in all DVD players, since it's a back up for me, no one else As long as it plays in my set-top player (which it does), I'm happy. And since it's my backup, I still have the original if something happens to the backup

But I'll have to try ImgTool Classic, because ImgTool didn't work - it gave the same error message that Nero did.
