This may be a little off the wall. I use 98Lite Pro which allows me to install Windows 98/SE without a bunch of stuff like Internet Explorer etc... It also allows me to swap the Win 98SE shell with the Win 95 shell for a stability and speed increase. The problem is with the Win 95 shell DVDShrink 2.xx-3.xx will not run, though the earlier DVDShrink 1.xx will. Has anyone got any ideas or does anyone even have the faintest idea what I am talking about?

I do have the faintest idea, since a friend of mine was one of the developers of 98Lite.

I'm going to shoot an email over to him with a link to this post - don't know if he'll respond quickly, though, as he usually has a million things going on at once...

I've never tried running Shrink under 98Lite, so I don't have any advice for you...

  4. Hi.

GKar, the following is a quote from dvdshrink, the developer.
    Win98/2000 problems
I think most of these problems are related to fact that DVD Shrink is compiled with Microsoft Visual C++ .NET version. I may go back to using Visual C++ 6.0 (which was used to compile DVD Shrink 1.03). DVD Shrink does require ASPI drivers (wnaspi32.dll) installed if running on Win95/98.
The original post can be found at:

This might mean you'll have to wait and see if the next release will fix your problem.

But if you still want to try and make it work, here is a link to the "Force ASPI" download, with easy installation:

You could also check the following list of files used by DVD Shrink (on XP/2000 systems though):

    I hope this helps.

Thanks! I have ASPI 4.60 (1021) installed. I believe you might have hit on the problem in the way it was compiled. If the *** GENIUS *** behind DVDShrink does his coding in the older C+++ on any newer release and it works I'll be shittin golden bricks!

If it ever happens, could you send dvdshrink and myself a few of them?
