  1. ok im trying to convert 2 avi files with ac3 audio to dvd, firstly i joined them with vdub, then i couldn't extract the audio wt vdub and had to use vdub ac3 and it gave a file of 150 mb insted of 1...gb as it would as .wav but when reencoding wt TMPGEnc it did accepted as a .wav file but when i authored it with dvdlab and the with maestro it came out with no sound at all .

could anyone help me out , and tell me the best way to convert a movie split in 2 xvid files and ac3 audio to dvdr.

    thank u

  2. Little confused about your steps/protocol but TMPGenc does NOT accept AC3 audio files. There's no need to re-encode the audio file, just have TMPGenc encode the m2v file, then let DVD Lab mux the m2v + ac3 -> VOB.

TMPGenc doesn't like mp3 files either (VBR audio of any guide). Most people feel that TMPGenc is a good video encoder but only so-so at audio anyway. They either encode w/ tooLame to mp2 or besweet to ac3:

Which "files" are you refering to, AVI, MPEG, or m2v & ac3?

I would take the avi, and create an m2v w/ tmpgenc(video only).
I would then take the m2v and the ac3 and load that into a DVD authoring program, I use TMPGEnc DVD Author and sometimes IFOEdit.
    I would then burn it.

  5. Open your avi in virtualdub mod ,go to streams menu and select streams list. Here select demux and it will save your ac3 file.
Use tmpgenc to convert your video, dont bother with audio encode as .m2v. Once you have your video file go to mpeg tools in the file menu of tmpgenc and select simple multiplex.
If you are converting to DVD select "mpeg-2 program" as type , your m2v as video and your ac3 file as audio. once this is coplete you have a mpg file with ac3 audio ready to be authored.

Both TMPGEnc DVD Author and IFOEdit(IFOEdit requires it actually) will accept seperate m2v and ac3 files, so there isnt a need to multiplex them.

  7. hi KKDFOS , ive done that now, but as im inserting subtitle on the dvd i tryed to use maestro to author it but as its loading the ac3 file it gives an error and doesn't accept......the file , i was thinkin of doing it with ifoedit as it lets add subs to the dvd but i don't know what program to use to convert the subtitle to the suported by ifoedit.

yeah but what do you do if your video source is 23.976 fps then you convert it to 29.97 fps (ntsc dvd standard) ? Do you have to somehow stretch the audio or anything to make it in sync, since you're changing the framerate to 29.97 and the audio from the source is 23.976 fps?

Why? Why did you convert 23.97 to 29.97? Absolutely no reason to for DVD's. In fact, it degrades quality by adding extra fake frames.

Audio is Audio, no framerate. Don't get confused with PAL/NTSC conversions and the 4% stretch. That's a different matter because you are actually changing the length of the film.

As long as the Video is the same length as the Audio, you will be fine.

Well because Tmpgenc dvd author doesn't accept a dvd-video of 23.976 fps and says standard for dvd is 29.97fps. Ulead dvd movie factory 2 accepts the file but wants to do a lengthy re-encode as well .

cyber_tek00: Have you tried fix the ac3 with ac3fix. You can convert subs to ifoedit format with srt2sup.

nick101181: You should convert to 23.976 with 3:2 pulldown. You can add pulldown to a 23,976 fps mpeg2 video with pulldown.exe. If the video has 3:2 pulldown it will be accepted by tmpgenc dvd author.
