  1. It seems everywhere I look , People say the Phillips 711 will play vcds just fine....But mine won't.

It registers as VCD....I put in the disc and it says VCD..play, then just stops.
It never leaves the inital Phillips (no disk, blue collage screen).
If i hit play, it trys then Stops.

My firmware is like 7.03...does it need updating, and if so..HOW do i do the upgrade? I saw a 7.22 Firmware file and downloaded it, but i dunno how to use it? Just burn the 2 files on a cdr and pop it in the dvd player??

Anyone able to tell me why this player wont play VCDs?

  2. Are you making your own VCDs or are you testing your player with VCDs that are known to be good?

Do your VCDs work on any other player?

Also, does it say in your DVD manual that your player can explicitly play VCD AND read CD-R and CD-RW media?

    Regards.

  3. yes i am using a burned VCD, but it works on my PC and on a friends stand alone dvd player.

My player states right on the front DVD/VCD/cdr/cdrw

It plays DVD, CD-r , and CD-rw perfectly....only trouble is with VCD, which it recognises as VCD, but fails to play it.

  4. Okay, there may be a problem with the VCD itself...

How did you create it? Encoder? What method? What settings? How did you burn it?

    Regards.

It may be the way your friend encoded the disc. If he uses EasyCreator than the player may not able to play it. Tell him to use Nero and try again. I have a Philips dvd711.
